Birthday Ideas

I just recently had my 21st birthday, and we did a small family gathering at a local resturant with cake and presents. I happen to be the "planner" of my family when it comes to birthdays, and honestly the rest of them seem quite desperate when it comes to coming up with ideas for gifts, activities and places to go for birthdays. So, here I am posting a list again to help those in need.

Each birthday susprise depends on who you're dealing with, age, gender and personality all matter when it comes to someones birthday. For lengths sake, will say that girls like girly things and boys like manly things.

Girls & Boys: Ages  5-13

  • What is the newest tween trend? Twillight? Harry potter? Dora? Focus on these ideas.
  • Planning a theme is a great idea, purchase matching colors for your little one pinks and blues are great.
  • Depends on where your going, but lots of friends. Even if it means you have to suffer through 3-4 hours of children screaming.
  • Sleepovers, rent or netflix several movies. Make a playlist for them to listen to, decorate your basement/family room and have everyone sleep there in sleeping bags.
  • Have older siblings leave for the night, have their own sleep over.
  • Towards 13 years old, tradational kids parites might not be "cool" and you have to get creative. Try movie passes, shopping trips ect.
  • Gross things, Zoo's, reptile guys are faily reasonable to come to a house party.
  • Amusment parks and anything fast paced.
  • Themed colors, blue, black, red, but be prepared for you boys to not care as much.
  • Whats the newest action hero movie? favourite video games? run with these.
  • Be creative, specality cakes can be made for under $40 at a local grocery store
  • Party favours, candy, pop chips and noise makers are great but be prepeared to have 5-6 kids running around your house all night.
  • It's not a kids birthday unless you have lots of ballons, confetti and noise makers.

Boys & Girls: Ages 14-18
This is a tougher age, high school. They have lots of friends and want to be independant.
  • Backyard party, nightime. Camp fire may or may not apply.
  • Mock "Bar" night, make virgin cocktails for the ladies and non-alcholic beers for the guys. Play club music and let them dance.
  • Make your own pizza night. Mini pizzas work best, buy flat breads and all ingerdients needed. Have the teens make them to their liking.
  • Beach day, drive them to your local beach hotspot, drop them & a friend or two off for the day. ( be sure to leave them with a cell phone in case of emergency)
  • Girls: pay for them to have their hair & nails done, take them to dinner
  • Closer to 18, rent them a campsite. Only allow 2-3 teens of same genders to ease your worries.
19 & Older
If the bars are not their thing, or money is tight here are a few ideas for family & friends.
  •  Invite all family over, cook dinner and dessert.
  • Wrap several smaller gifts to create a pile
  • Themes like mardi gras, paris, italy, or rome are great ways to dress up and decorate.
  • Gift certificates that are "date" nights and nights out are usually loved. Movies, bowling, mini golf are just some ideas.
  • Go bowling or Mini-golfing.
  • Make a punch or sangria, not too strong. Just something for everyone to sip on.
  • At home movie nights, netflix. Let the birthday person choose what to watch or plan a movieathon with a specific type or series.
  • Video game nights can be great if you want to stay indoors as well. Little big planet & the lego series are multiplayer and get everyone laughing.
